The IGNITE Foundation, Inc. (Innovative Ground Networking In Technology Education) is a national 501c3 enrichment program for K and up schools designed, in part, on the concept of the folk tale, .Stone Soup.. There are many versions of this tale, but for demonstration purposes, we will use the following: .Stone Soup. Soldiers come to a village tired and hungry from fighting in a war and ask for food and shelter. The villagers have little to feed their own families, tell them they have nothing to offer, and hope they will travel on to the next village. The soldiers suggest that they make stone soup for everyone, a meal that they had prepared for the king himself during these tough times. Intrigued, the villagers bring the soldiers a large pot which they fill with water and warm over a fire in the middle of the town square while a crowd starts to gather. Standing around the pot, one of the soldiers suggests that when they made the soup for the king it had some carrots in it. One of the villagers offers, .I have some carrots!

One by one the villagers bring carrots, potatoes, meat and other vegetables to add. The end of the story is simply that their joint efforts created a great meal for everyone despite the tough economic times they were all in. Creating a Spark for Launch! Although our initial focus is in the area of math, science, and technology (engineering) using the theme of aviation and aerospace, IGNITE programs fall under ANY aspect of education or theme that encourages creativity and builds self-esteem.
